From the time my wife became pregnant, i have started growing my hair or rather stopped having hair cut and wanted to offer the long hair to lord venkateshwara after the baby's arrival and his naming ceremony.
So, after the naming ceremony of my son on 8th August, started to Tirupati on 11th of august along with my child hood friend Vishu... it was a good trip.Had offered the hair, offered great thanks to the lord for blessing us a baby in a problem less manner..
Started from hyderabad in a Volvo bus at 9PM and reached Tirupati at 7AM in the morning on next day.. after freshing up and keeping luggage in the Kashi Vysya satram (in which my father is a EC meber) we both went to Alipiri from where the walkway to the hill top starts..
The abode of lord Venkateshwara (called as Balaji by north Indians) is situated on top of seven hills and the lord is called as Edukondala Swamy (god of seven hills) affectionately by lakhs of his devotees.. this temple is the number one in the world in terms of number of visitors per day/.week/month/year and in terms of the offerings by the devotees..
Built centuries back by the famous kings of the telugu history, this place offers a great solace to all devotees..
People pray god for fulfilling their wishes, remove hassles in their life and offer many things to the god like Hair tonsuring (giving away your pride) , porlu dandalu (doing pradakshinas around the temple by rolling on the floor) , walking uphill (around 10 Kms )..
we started on the waliking path at about 820 AM and it was a very good experience (as always).. on the way, I have observed many people offering many things ... saw a couple walking and holding their 6 months baby boy... being a new father, I know how difficult it is to plan for such a travel , The travel with rest less nights and on top of it continue walking to the hill top and taking care of the baby's needs..how strong their faith and commitment to the god..
Another family was offering jyothi/deepam on each and every step on the walk way..there are more than 4000 steps and hey are offering one deepam on each step... again a revelation of the faith, affection and commitment to the god... one of the family leads by placing the vathi (made of cotton and dipped on edible oil ) and the next person was lighting it with a candle.
Being a 30 year male ,i myslef and vishu had to take many breaks without any of these tasks and the family consisting women, elders kids are doing this ... how deeply they are attached to the god!!...
Many things like this on the way will reinforce the faith of lakhs of devotees coming to this place and TTD ( the board which looks after the affairs of the temple ) can do much better in the way they implement, act on the policies and facilities..
one of the best things they started recently is, they will give a darshan token at one point on the walkway and this ticket enables the devotees who go walking to the hill top get a preferential/shortest queue to have the lord's darshan..
it was the first week of the month of 'Shravana ' , the favorite month of lord venkateshwara...
we had the darshan in a record 1 hr time..offered prayers to the god...after that a very hard struggle for getting the famous laddu.. the authorities can do much better here ..
once we came out of the temple campus, i preferred to sit on the famous steps in front of the temple and feel the pleasant, spiritual, great atmosphere of thirumala which I always do when ever i go there..
vishu was impatient and wanted to start to Tirupati (the town at the foot of the seven hills)..we started at around 6 'o clock after a mini shopping for Vibhav , a kurta paijama for upcoming vinayaka chaviti festival .
It was a good experience and felt very happy ..want to go again once Vibhav is abt 1 year old.
